Challenges in Cardiovascular Intervention:
Management of Combined Coronary and Carotid Disease
October 14, 2007
Charles B. Wang Center, Stony Brook University Stony Brook, New York
Course Director:
John J. Ricotta, MD
Dear Colleague,
Managing clinically significant coexistent lesions in the coronary and carotid circulations continues to be a vexing problem for cardiologists, neurologists, and cardiovascular surgeons. This situation is seen in 3-8% of patients who present for coronary revascularization and as many as 10% of patients who present for carotid revascularization. While advances in the endoluminal therapy of atherosclerosis have opened new treatment options for these patients, optimal management algorithms have yet to be developed.
We would like to invite you to participate in a symposium on the current treatment of combined coronary and carotid disease. The purpose will be to review the historical data on managing patients with combined coronary and carotid disease, discuss the current state-of-the-art, and hopefully plan a prospective trial to evaluate the role of carotid stenting for these patients. The conference will be held at the Wang Center at Stony Brook University on October 14, 2007. This think tank will be held on Sunday following the one-day symposium on “Meeting of the Minds: Emergent Therapies in Cardiovascular Disease, Outcomes and Evidence-Based Medicine” which is being directed by our Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery along with Cardiology.
As a clinician who treats patients with advanced atherosclerotic disease we hope you will be interested in this topic and look forward to seeing you here on Long Island in October of 2007. For additional information, please call 631-444-8140.
Sincerely and with best regards,
John J. Ricotta, MD
