The initial spark for The Houston Aortic Symposium started when a decision was made to offer a scholarly conference inaugurating the opening of the Memorial Hermann Hospital Heart & Vascular Institute at the Texas Medical Center. The Heart & Vascular Institute (HVI) is now a fully operational cardiovascular center.
We have worked diligently to assemble a distinguished faculty of international experts for this symposium. It is designed to track the full spectrum of aortic disease, research and treatments from the standpoints of epidemiology, pathogenesis, genetics and pathology, including surgical and medical treatment modalities. In conjunction with the Symposium, we planned to publish this book to commemorate the opening of the Institute. Through the tireless efforts of David D. McPherson, MD, this goal was accomplished. The book features the range of topics presented by our faculty attending the Symposium, representing their considerable wealth of experince.
It is our hope that you enjoy it and find it instructive. We are extremely grateful to all our speakers for their collaborative efforts. They have taken time from their schedules to share their techniques and research, to collaborate with us on this book.
Our aim is to deliver the latest advances and information in the treatment of cardiovascular disease through participation in the Symposium. We will endeavor to meet each Spring in Houston, Texas, at The Houston Aortic Symposium for this purpose.
